NAFCU discusses FOM, nonmember services with NCUA [ [link removed] ]
Members of NAFCU's Regulatory Affairs and Regulatory Compliance teams Tuesday met with staff from the NCUA's Office of General Counsel to discuss modernization of the agency’s field of membership (FOM) and chartering rules. NAFCU has previously shared the association's general support of the NCUA's recently proposed changes to its FOM rule, as they would streamline the agency's chartering procedures.
Senate passes NDAA; House advances FY2020 spending bills [ [link removed] ]
After months of advocacy by NAFCU and credit unions, the Senate passed the fiscal year 2020 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) that does not include a credit union-opposed provision. Additionally, the bipartisan spending package is in the Senate for consideration – following House passage yesterday – and is expected to pass in order to avert a government shutdown and provide funding through the rest of fiscal year 2020.
NAFCU sends key agencies 2019 report on CU trends, issues [ [link removed] ]
NAFCU President and CEO Dan Berger this week sent the association's 2019 Report on Credit Unions to several agencies to ensure they understand the issues facing the industry and how credit unions are working to support their 119 million members. Members of NAFCU's Board of Directors previously met with Federal Reserve Governor Michelle Bowman to share results from the report.
Thaler to Senate Banking: Advance BSA/AML legislation [ [link removed] ]
NAFCU Vice President of Legislative Affairs Brad Thaler Tuesday shared the association's support of S. 2563, known as the ILLICIT CASH Act, in a letter to the Senate Banking Committee. NAFCU has actively sought Bank Secrecy Act (BSA)/anti-money laundering (AML) regime improvements and relief for credit unions, and previously shared its support for the House-passed COUNTER Act.

As 2019 winds down, NAFCU's Q4 Member Call-In happening today will provide credit unions with important updates to finish the year strong and ensure readiness for any potential changes coming in 2020. NAFCU President and CEO Dan Berger will be joined on the call – set to begin at 4 p.m. Eastern – by Executive Vice President of Government Affairs and General Counsel Carrie Hunt and other senior staff.
