Welcome to Wednesday, December 18th, consonants and vowels...

House Bill H. Res. 755: Should the House Impeach President Donald Trump?

The day is here. At 9:00am, ET, the House will debate, then vote, on two articles of impeachment against the president: whether Trump abused his power and obstructed Congress in regards to his conduct with Ukraine.

You can watch the impeachment vote here.

On the eve of the vote, Trump sent a blistering letter to Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), accusing the House speaker of waging an "open war on American democracy."

The president added that Pelosi has "cheapened the importance of the very ugly word, impeachment!"

Pelosi also issued a letter on impeachment eve, this one aimed at Democrats:

"No Member came to Congress to impeach a President. But every one of us, as our first act as a Member of Congress, stood on the House Floor, raised our hand and took a sacred oath: 'I do solemnly swear that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic.' That oath makes us Custodians of the Constitution. If we do not act, we will be derelict in our duty."

FISA Court Orders FBI to Fix Surveillance

The Foreign Intelligence Surveillance (FISA) Court has issued a rare public rebuke of the FBI, ordering the bureau to explain how it plans to correct errors revealed in last week’s Justice Department report about the FBI’s investigation of Trump’s 2016 campaign.

Rosemary Collyer, presiding judge on the secretive FISA Court, said the report "calls into question whether information contained in other FBI applications is reliable." She ordered the FBI to explain by Jan. 10 how it intends to remedy those problems.

She added that the FBI’s surveillance of former Trump campaign adviser Carter Page “was antithetical to the heightened duty of candor" required by the law that established the FISA court.

And, in the End...

Amazingly(?), it just so happens that on this date in 1998, the House began debate on the four articles of impeachment concerning Bill Clinton.
