Friends -
Happy Labor Day!
Please take a moment on Monday to remember the battle that our brothers and sisters in labor continue to be a part of everyday. As the Michigan Democratic Party we will continue to join them in this fight and support their efforts to ensure that American workers are treated fairly and equally. They are the backbone of our country and their work is what keeps this country moving forward. We are very proud that our coordinated campaign organizers, the folks on the ground talking to voters everyday, are now members of IBEW Local 1106. We practice what we preach and are deeply invested in the labor movement.
This Labor Day also means we are just 65 days away from the election, and only 26 days away from the start of early voting In Michigan . When I say this election is right around the corner, it truly is right around the corner. I cannot overstate the importance of this election and the role you can play in ensuring we elect Democrats across the state. Check out volunteer opportunities in your area, engage, and talk to your friends and family. Don’t let this opportunity for your voice to be heard pass you by. Check out how to get engaged by visiting our mobilize site here [[link removed]] .
Earlier this week, the State Board of Canvassers voted along party lines to prevent the Promote the Vote and Reproductive Freedom for All measures from appearing on the November ballot. This abuse of power by the Republican members inserting their partisan policy preferences to nullify the wishes of the hundreds of thousands of Michiganders that signed these petitions is a stark reminder of the importance of the Michigan Supreme Court, who will have the final say on these matters. We must tell our neighbors, friends, everyone we can connect with between now and election day - vote your entire ballot, flip it over and make sure you cast a vote for Richard Bernstein and Kyra Bolden for the Supreme Court. Who sits on that court literally decides the fate of our lives and the lives of our children and grandchildren.
The Republicans are up to their same old dirty antics, but it is becoming increasingly obvious that we are smarter, better organized, and working much harder to elect Democrats that will fight for us in Lansing and in Washington DC every single day on every issue that impacts our lives. We cannot afford to sit this election out. Join us today in the fight for our lives.
Please take care of yourself and families, we can do this Democrats.
In Solidarity,
Lavora Barnes
