It’s Stacey Plaskett - you may remember me in my blue dress from the second impeachment trial when I told the entire world that Donald Trump orchestrated the events of January 6th.

Those words have come true. Now the January 6th committee is exposing the full truth behind that disgusting attack on our democracy - using the words of Trump’s own advisors against him. In fact, these MAGA extremists orchestrated a 7-step plan to overturn the election.

We received 57 votes to convict Trump - including 7 Republicans. But unfortunately it was not enough, and now the dangers to democracy are more apparent than ever. This election in November isn’t even really about politics, it’s about protecting our democracy.

I’ve learned throughout my life that preparation and truth can carry you far. I learned that as a young Black girl growing up in Brooklyn, and now as an adult woman, representing an island territory and speaking truth to power in Congress.

I feel the same way about this election. We need to be prepared. We need to speak the truth about the dangers facing our democracy. We need to hold Trump accountable for what happened on January 6th. And we need to organize, fundraise and vote like our democracy depends on it - because it does.
