John, The Republicans are trying to steal their way to a House majority. I know this won't surprise you, that the party of coups, corruption and stealing classified documents has ignored crystal-clear court rulings to try to steal House seats. It isn't like they haven't obscenely gerrymandered in the past. This is how they built their majority in 2010, after all. Can you join me in giving $2, $5, $10 or whatever you can afford to the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) so that we can ensure we hold the House--even increase our majority--and can stop them from stealing their way to a House majority this time, or ever again? But now, as authoritarians do, they've purposely run out the clock to ignore our courts until we pass dates when district lines must be set. Our Supreme Court, when it's bothered to say anything, said it's "too close to an election" to make them change district lines, rewarding their delaying tactics of ignoring clear rulings REQUIRING THEM TO DRAW ADDITIONAL BLACK MAJORITY DISTRICTS. Yet another betrayal by our insane, illegitimate, right-wing Supreme Court, and an incredibly dangerous precedent for our democracy. In a piece in The Huffington Post, it's clear that these tactics could give Republicans 5-7 additional House seats, just because they refused to follow the law. In Alabama, Louisiana and Georgia, the Black populations are 27%, 33% & 33% respectively, so based on The Voting Rights Act, our Constitution and, well, math, a quarter to a third of the districts in these states must be majority Black. Yet, Republican state legislators who obviously hate democracy have gerrymandered to only allow one majority Black district in each state, and now the Supreme Court has allowed them to get away with it. |
