Congratulations to the Tenth District's Service Academy Appointees!

Congratulations to Hanani Doña and Anthony Franson from the Tenth District for having accepted appointments to our nation's military service academies for the Class of 2026. Each of these students applied for a nomination through my office. Each has already accomplished a great deal and I am confident they will continue to be excellent representatives of the Tenth District as they join some of the best and brightest in our nation. 

Hanani Doña of Lake Norman is the daughter of Avemailda and Ed Doña and graduated from Lake Norman High School in 2022. In high school Hanani was on the Student Council, a member of the National Honor Society, and was a nationally ranked, four year varsity swimmer. She is attending the United States Air Force Academy at Colorado Springs. Hanani is a second generation Air Force Academy cadet.

Anthony Franson of Reidsville is the son of Sarah Kettles and Joe Franson and graduated from Reidsville High School in 2022. In high school Anthony was the captain of the football, soccer, and swim teams, editor of the yearbook, a member of the National Honor Society, and a leader in the Civil Air Patrol. He is attending the United States Naval Academy at Annapolis. Anthony is a fourth generation Naval Academy midshipman.

Biden's Student Debt Transfer Scheme

The Biden administration is attempting to gaslight Americans into believing the Paycheck Protection Program and their student debt transfer scheme are the same. This is not true. The PPP was passed by Congress with large bipartisan support to keep millions of Americans employed during government-imposed closures. Biden’s student loan scheme is being forced through by unprecedented executive overreach and forces American taxpayers to pay for the education of the elites—how "progressive."

If Democrats were serious about providing relief to future students and graduates, they’d work with Republicans to tackle inflation and connect workers with jobs that ensure long term financial success. This is nothing more than an attempt to buy votes ahead of November.

Fentanyl overdoses are now the leading cause of death for Americans aged 18-45. This deadly drug is coming through our southern border at record numbers. Over 10,000 pounds of poisonous fentanyl have been seized this fiscal year alone. Last week we observed Overdose Awareness Day, a stark reminder that we must work to secure our border, protect our communities, and end the opioid epidemic.
