Late last week NDP leader Jagmeet Singh sent an email <[link removed]>to supporters setting out his party’s new policy positions on the Israel-Palestine conflict.

Mr. Singh professes he wants to see a peaceful two-state solution – as does CIJA, the Jewish community, the Canadian government, and all major Canadian political parties.

However, Mr. Singh’s approach ignores the reality on the ground in the region, laying the blame at the feet of Israel and in turn infantilizing Palestinians, and reducing them from genuine partners in peace to little more than passive victims. Mr. Singh’s position assumes that every challenge faced by the Palestinian people is not only Israel’s fault but also Israel’s responsibility to solve.

This new approach adopted by the NDP will not build peace in the region. It will only serve to sow division, advance a distorted narrative and history, and preclude a safe space for Jews in the NDP.

Join us in calling on Mr. Singh and the NDP to stop using this divisive rhetoric that infantilizes Palestinians, demonizes Israelis, and will not lead to peace in the region.

For the first time since 2019 Pride Shabbat returned to Ottawa and Calgary.

Last week, CIJA proudly co-hosted Pride Shabbat Dinners in Ottawa and Calgary. Hundreds of LGBTQ2S+  community members and non-Jewish allies joined us to celebrate our Jewish values and rich heritage with great pride.

We are thankful to the various elected officials from all levels of government who attended, especially our special guest speakers MPs Eric Duncan and Yasir Naqvi. We also thank our other guest speakers for their support and community leadership and extend our sincerest appreciation to the spiritual and congregational leaders for their guidance, warm words of affirmation, and support.
