You may be surprised to learn that California was the second state in the nation to establish charter schools. The legislation was introduced by a Democrat!  

Today, the Democrat party in California and D.C. looks very different. Controlled by the teachers’ unions, Democrats like Gavin Newsom and Katie Porter seek to stymie charter schools at every turn. They don’t want parents to have a say in their kids’ education so they can indoctrinate the next generation with their woke ideas. 

Unlike Katie Porter, I believe parents should have a strong say in what their kids are taught and that students should not be trapped by their zip code! For many low-income students, charter schools create opportunities to improve the quality of their education. In fact, studies show that charter schools have been particularly beneficial to minorities and low-income students in urban areas such as Los Angeles, resulting in more hours of instruction. 

The Left’s pandemic closures have also emphasized the need for charter schools. In the wake of the pandemic, three of the top elementary schools and two of the top middle schools in California were charter schools!
