As some of you know, my mother passed away last month after a four-year journey with cancer.
There was a lot happening all at once, between the critical end-of-month fundraising push, our Get Out The Vote door-knocking campaign, and campaign stops throughout the district. To lose my mom, the woman who made me the doctor and man I am today, during all of it was just a bit too much.
But thanks to you and my wonderful team of staff and volunteers, I was able to take a day away from the campaign to spend time with my family.
While I was (mostly) away-from-keyboard for a day, we reached 50,000 doors knocked and blew through our fundraising goal.
I think too often politicians pretend to be perfect — never getting sick, or sad, or needing help. But that’s not reality.
I needed help last month, and you all showed up for me. Whether it was through pitching in $5, knocking on doors with us, or sharing words of sympathy and encouragement, please know your kindness was so appreciated.
