Jack, I panicked. I recently moved to North Carolina and attempted to register to vote. I was confused – I needed an NC driver’s license or ID card to register online, one that I did not yet have. Sigh of relief – after some research and phone calls, I found an application that I would need to print, fill out by hand, and physically mail in in order to register in time. What's more, I was lucky – just recently an ID requirement was struck down in NC, but that could be appealed.
My registration journey was not obvious and, unfortunately, is a common problem that can discourage folks from registering or voting. Luckily, we have boots on the ground who can help North Carolina residents register, vote, and even help elect leaders who will protect our democracy by ending such voter suppression tactics like ID requirements.
Daily Kos has identified eight North Carolina-based grassroots organizations with proven track records of engaging and mobilizing voters, and helping people navigate the barriers erected to prevent them from voting. Please donate $1 to each of these orgs whose efforts will be key to securing victory in North Carolina and widening our Senate majority.

P.S. Below is an email we sent out earlier supporting North Carolina voter turnout efforts:
Jack, while much has been achieved in the last two years, a narrow, single vote majority in the U.S. Senate thwarted progress on voting rights, paid leave, college affordability, reducing child poverty, investment in care work for elders and children, and more.
To end the dominance of a small number of conservative Democrats over the party's legislative agenda, we must pick up more Senate seats in the midterm elections. We stand a good chance to pick one up in North Carolina with State Supreme Court Chief Justice Cheri Beasley.
Even right-leaning polls have Beasley in a dead heat with her Republican opponent, so voter turnout is the name of the game. North Carolina's GOP-controlled state legislature has been throwing everything at the wall to make voting harder and less accessible, particularly for Black voters, and seem hell-bent on getting their anti-voter laws in front of Trump's Supreme Court.

There was a time when the conventional wisdom was that North Carolina would never go for Democratic candidates in a national election, but the GOP can no longer rely on Southern states to deliver for them, no matter how much they try to rig the game.
Despite incredibly restrictive voting laws after the Supreme Court gutted the Voting Rights Act, gerrymandering, and racial vote dilution, North Carolina is a purple state making a slow shift towards blue. Organizers in North Carolina keep moving the needle even in the face of systemic voter suppression.
They have done the work to fight anti-voter laws, educate voters, and get their ballots cast and counted anyway. With more resources–like a boost from our community–they can lead us to victory in 2022, Jack.
Please donate $1 to each of these tried and true community organizations whose precise and effective voter engagement will bring us a new Democratic senator in North Carolina.
