This a special Labor Day issue devoted to the clear and present danger that the left poses to our nation’s prosperity and basic freedoms. Wake up, America. We are up against a formidable and dangerous army of green religious zealots who now hold positions of power and are using the forces of government to take away some of our most basic rights. As you will read below, these infringements on liberty are getting worse LITERALLY every single day.

1) Welcome To The New “Smart Thermostats”
We at CTUP were right… and we were wrong. We have warned for many months that the climate change fanatics that now run our government in Washington and many state capitals would soon be rationing energy and even adjusting your home and business thermostats to reduce electric power usage.
We reported that it is happening in Europe. We just thought that these Stalinist policies wouldn’t arrive on these shores for a few years down the road.

Well, they’re here now. This isn’t a fire drill.

It has happened in Colorado. Yes, the government and public utilities are using “smart thermostats” – through a “voluntary” program that seduced homeowners with promises of rebates on their utility bills – that can regulate the temperature of your home. In the heat wave, they are turning the temperature to 78 degrees. In the winter, who knows? 65? Get your Jimmy Carter cardigan sweaters and a down blanket ready.

It would be one thing if there were a genuine energy shortage or a Hurricane Katrina-type natural disaster that knocked out our energy grid, which might require some kind of rationing.

But there is NO energy shortage. We have hundreds of years of coal, gas, and oil. Nuclear power and hydropower are infinite sources of energy. This is ALL due to the sheer idiocy of green energy requirements.

We have said it before these people are dangerous religious zealots – on a mission from God to save the planet.

The first step in keeping your home heated and the lights on is to get a generator not hooked up to the power grids that they now control. We’re deadly serious.

2) Meanwhile, In California…
This is a real alert sent out by a Sacramento electric utility to a HOTLINE reader. They are recommending setting the thermostat to a comfortable EIGHTY DEGREES... "or higher."

Does anybody think it’s set to 80+ at Governor Newsom's house? And how long will this program be voluntary? See the item above.

3) Up Next? Paying Poor People Not To Own Cars
It's really getting dystopian out there:

One of the more novel measures passed by the legislature is a $1,000 refundable tax credit to low-income Californians who don’t own cars. The legislation, the first of its kind in the country, is designed as a reward for living car free.

What is incredibly subversive about this policy is that catalogs of studies show that the best way for the poor to escape poverty is for them to buy a car so they can travel outside the central cities to jobs and drive their kids to good schools.

4) And Revoking Doctors' Medical Licenses For Deviating From "Consensus"
This is a remarkable one also headed to Newsom's desk: doctors' can lose their medical licenses for spreading COVID "misinformation," which is defined as deviation from "contemporary scientific consensus":

Which reminds us of this quote from Michael Crichton, which is more relevant than ever given recent developments in COVID and climate:

Let’s be clear: the work of science has nothing whatever to do with consensus. Consensus is the business of politics. Science, on the contrary, requires only one investigator who happens to be right, which means that he or she has results that are verifiable by reference to the real world. In science consensus is irrelevant. What is relevant is reproducible results. The greatest scientists in history are great precisely because they broke with the consensus. There is no such thing as consensus science. If it’s consensus, it isn’t science. If it’s science, it isn’t consensus. Period.

5) The Federal Government Has Also Been Suppressing Dissent
A major document dump yesterday showed extensive pressure by the Biden administration imposed on social media companies to censor and ban critics of their COVID policies:

Some on the right have suggested government regulation through antitrust policies to treat companies like Google, Twitter, Apple, and Facebook as public utilities or “common carriers.” Really? This would only give the government more power to suppress free speech.

The better solution would be legislation modeled on the Hatch Act prohibiting any government employee from pressuring any private individual or business to suppress First Amendment speech.

6) Welcome To California!
