With an authentic, grassroots campaign and ZERO corporate PAC money, Mary Peltola not only defeated Trump-endorsed, MAGA prototype, ex-governor Sarah Palin to win Alaska’s open At-Large congressional seat, she made history along the way. Peltola is the first Democrat to win this seat in nearly 50 years, and she is the first Indigenous Alaskan to represent Alaska in Congress.
We launched BNC in 2016 with the goal of electing an entirely NEW Congress. And this November we have the chance to DOUBLE our elected representatives. → Chip in now if you want to GROW progressive power in Congress.
Let’s be real: Top to bottom, left to right, Congress isn’t working for working people. And as Republicans veer further to the radical right, the political mainstream is moving to the progressive left. More and more mainstream candidates are rejecting corporate PAC money, pushing for universal healthcare, and demanding bold climate action – all progressive policies Brand New Congress has championed from the start.
Rejecting the dangerous ideology of Christian Nationalists like Marjorie Taylor Greene is the easy part. We also have to challenge the corporate politics of career politicians like Nancy Pelosi and Mitch McConnell – the people who keep telling us we can’t have nice things like affordable housing, living wages, and a habitable planet. That’s why BNC runs against career politicians on both sides of the aisle.
Mary Peltola made history this week, which is something BNC is very familiar with. We made history in 2018 when we recruited and elected AOC as the youngest woman ever elected to Congress. We made history in 2020 when we recruited and elected Cori Bush as the first Black woman elected to Congress from Missouri, and the first Black Lives Matter activist elected to federal office.
And this November, we’re going to do it again. We’re going to defeat Rand Paul and elect Charles Booker as the first Black man elected to the U.S. Senate from Kentucky. We’re going to elect Michelle Vallejo and Angélica Dueñas as the first Latinas to represent their majority immigrant districts in Texas and California.
We’re going to defeat homophobe GOP Rep. Mark Green and flip TN-07 with Odessa Kelly as the first openly gay Black woman elected to Congress. And we’re going to elect Becca Balint as the first openly gay woman elected to Congress from Vermont. And we’re just getting warmed up.
Americans are rising up against the radical right, breaking records and making history from coast to coast. Join us as Brand New Congress makes history in November – and beyond. In solidarity, The entire team at Brand New Congress
