Team,
In a moment, I’m going to ask you to make a donation to my campaign – but first, I want to talk about a recent case in Nebraska that proves why our privacy laws here in California are so critical.
In June – even before Roe v. Wade was overturned – law enforcement requested Facebook data of a mother and daughter facing criminal charges for an alleged illegal abortion, including private messages. Meta, Facebook’s parent company, turned it over.
That wouldn’t happen here. In California, we protect abortion rights. We also have data privacy laws on the books to ensure that people have control over their personal information.
The California Department of Justice is committed to protecting reproductive rights and ensuring compliance with our health care and medical data privacy laws, full stop. I will never stop fighting to expand reproductive freedom not just in California, but across the country – we must be a leader on this issue.
My Republican opponent has made no such promise. He’s out of step with Californians.
We need an attorney general committed to protecting our values – including reproductive freedom and medical privacy. That’s why I’m asking you to chip in to my campaign to protect these values. Will you join the fight?
Thank you,
Rob Bonta
