Happy Friday, Friend. I hope everyone had a chance to see Biden's speech last night. If not, do it. It is past time that we, as a nation, take a strong stand against the anti-democratic political extremism of the right. Trump and his MAGA followers do not represent every Republican, but they are the dominant force in the GOP today. The MAGA movement will not "fade away" if we just ignore it.

We are facing the rise of a fascist movement in this country, fueled by lies, that intends to lock in its minority political views through gerrymandering and court-packing. We have seen a roll-back of rights before -- during Reconstruction, when southern whites used violence and a twisted justice system to oppress black Americans. White northerners let it happen. We cannot let complacency undermine democracy again.

Biden is correct to call this a "battle for the soul of our nation."

On the pro-democracy side, we have a big tent ranging from progressives like AOC to principled conservatives like Liz Cheney. On the MAGA side. we have a horde of Trump-flag-wavers who spout inane cheers like "Let's Go Brandon." Their arguments are illogical and tired ("but her emails!" "What about Hunter?!"), but they have been radicalized by far-right media and they would throw our democracy out in a minute if Trump told them to.

2022 gives us a chance to crush the MAGA movement and ensure it stands no chance of taking the Presidency in 2024. We need strong Democratic majorities in the House and Senate to protect voting rights from extremist, anti-democratic GOP state officials. Many of these officials are currently running campaigns bragging that they would throw out the popular vote if it goes the "wrong" way.?

Do I wish Biden had made this speech a year ago? Yes. Do I wish the Department of Justice moved more quickly against the obvious illegal activities of ex-President Trump? Yes. That said: better late than never.

Biden clearly understands the threat our nation faces and I'm hopeful that enough Americans will wake up by November to save our democracy.

We are now two months from the election. It's time to start talking to your friends, neighbors, and family members in the district. Remind them to register and try to convince them to vote for me. That kind of personal word-of-mouth is the best form of political advertising and the best way to flip votes.
