Friend,

Here’s some great news: For the first time in nearly fifty years, a Democrat will represent the state of Alaska in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Mary Peltota’s defeat of Sarah Palin is a stark rebuke of a Trump-picked candidate with an extremist right-wing agenda. But it also serves as another optimistic signal that the Democrats are on track to reverse historic trends and potentially hold their majorities in Congress.

Why am I feeling so optimistic about the upcoming midterm elections? Well, folks, the data here really speaks for itself.

In 2020, Trump carried Alaska by a margin of ten percentage points. Peltota reversed that by twelve and delivered a two-point victory in a statewide election that every forecaster predicted would go red. That type of major swing is reason enough for an optimistic midterm outlook, but when you couple it with the results we’ve been getting from the other special elections, you get a clear picture about what Democrats are potentially on track to accomplish in November.

Since the Supreme Court’s decision in Dobbs in June, Democrats have outperformed President Biden’s 2020 performance by an average of nearly 7 points across 5 special elections. These aren’t in deep blue districts either. Democrats are competing and winning in districts that were unthinkable just a few months ago.

Friend, the political environment is trending towards a blue November. We’re getting excellent indicators from these special elections, Democrats are consistently ahead on generic ballot polling, and President Biden’s approval rating is rising by the day. From their extremist anti-choice rhetoric to their blind sycophancy to Trump, it looks like voters are ready to decidedly reject this slate of MAGA candidates. Hopefully, for good.

But we absolutely must not take this rosy outlook for a given. We’ve been working tirelessly all summer to get these results, and there are Democrats all over the country that are fighting tooth and nail in races that will decide control over Congress. And between now and Election Day, they need all the support they can get. That’s why I’m traveling the country rallying support for Democrats in key races.

Now, you don’t need me telling you that in American politics a lot can change in two months. That’s why I’m planning on continuing to travel wherever I can to support these great candidates. I won’t sit idly while Republicans reverse all this great momentum we’ve worked so hard to achieve, and I know you won’t either.

I really do appreciate all the work you’re putting in. I’m committed to doing everything I can too.

-Doug
