The Week in Review

Happy Friday!

I hope everyone had a great week. The House was not in session, but I was still working hard to advance the interests of the Fifth District. From leading a congressional delegation border tour to sending congressional letters to the Biden Administration in response to their unacceptable Veterans Affairs (VA) care and food supply crisis,  I hope you’ll read below to learn about the important happenings from the week:

Recap: Biggs Border Tour

This week, I led a congressional delegation to the Arizona-Mexico border where we had the opportunity to meet with the U.S. Border Patrol, Yuma County and Cochise County officials, ranchers, and more.

The Yuma Sector is now becoming ground zero for Biden’s border crisis. Illegal aliens from more than 100 countries are arriving in this region hoping to be released immediately into the country by the Biden Administration.

While I was in this sector, I witnessed significant gaps in President Trump’s border wall, unused border wall material rotting away, and at some points, I could see cartel scouts roaming freely into our country.

Nearly five million illegal aliens have entered our country since President Biden took the office about 20 months ago. Record numbers of fentanyl and other deadly drugs are flowing across the border. Dangerous criminal illegal aliens are not being apprehended. This is an unprecedented and unacceptable situation.

Securing our southern border and curbing illegal immigration remains a top priority for me and I will not let this administration continue to facilitate this invasion. Yesterday, I sent a formal invitation to White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre—who absurdly stated illegal aliens aren’t crossing the border between ports of entry—to join me for a tour of the Arizona-Mexico border. I have yet to hear anything back from her. That invitation can be read here.

I’m grateful for the hardworking Border Patrol agents we met during this trip as well as my congressional colleagues for taking the time out of their busy schedules to learn more about Biden’s border crisis.

Inviting VA Secretary to Discuss Unacceptable Wait Times for Veteran Health Care

I sent a letter to Veterans Affairs (VA) Secretary Denis McDonough requesting his attendance at a Congressional forum discussing extensive wait times within the department that have affected veterans’ access to quality care around the country.

Veterans are not receiving the quality care they deserve and VA Secretary McDonough has a responsibility to mend his department’s failures. For too long, veterans in my district, the greater Phoenix area, and across the country have faced unacceptable delays and wait times for their health care.

I expect Secretary McDonough to attend this forum where my colleagues and I can discuss solutions with him and ensure that the needs of our veterans are being met.

As the chief executive of the VA, Secretary McDonough has a duty to deliver high-quality care to our veterans.

Addressing the Biden Administration’s Looming Food Supply Crisis

I also sent letters to U.S. Department of Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack, U.S. Department of Interior Secretary Debra Haaland, and U.S. Trade Representative Katherine Tai regarding the looming global food supply crisis and the Biden Administration’s contribution to it through its failing energy and economic policies.

The Biden Administration’s war on domestic energy production is contributing to the unacceptable rise in food and fertilizer prices throughout America and the world. There are steps that the Biden Administration must take to lower these costs and ensure our global markets are functioning correctly.

It is imperative to increase and protect domestic grain and fertilizer production in our country—essential commodities that serve as the foundation for a robust food supply.

These three officials must provide us with an immediate and comprehensive breakdown of how they intend to abrogate its self-inflicted food supply crisis. The American public cannot tolerate yet another Biden Administration crisis.

The letter to U.S. Department of Interior Secretary Debra Haaland may be read here.

Definition of the Week

During his 2020 presidential campaign, President Biden pledged to unify the country. Since then, he has done virtually the opposite.

This week, President Biden stated, “the extreme MAGA Republicans have made their choice: to go backwards, full of anger, violence, hate, and division. We’ve chosen a different path: forward, the future, unity, hope, and optimism. We choose to build a better America.”

President Biden also mentioned that the movement of Americans who support America First policies is similar to “semi-fascism.”

This type of rhetoric from the President of the United States is not unifying and dehumanizes those who genuinely care for their country.

Inspired by President Biden’s hypocritical pledge, here’s the definition of the week:

Unity (NOUN): A concept that President Joe Biden continues to advocate for but is not showing himself.
