Teddy Roosevelt once said: “Far and away the best prize that life offers is the chance to work hard at work worth doing.” I couldn’t agree more, and that’s what drives me every day—because working to uplift Rochester families and create a brighter future for our children is certainly work worth doing. At a time when our community is perpetually grieving innocent lives lost to gun violence, we need decisive action to keep families safe. I have long supported common-sense measures like banning assault weapons and enacting universal background checks on gun sales, and now I’m taking additional steps to crack down on gun trafficking. After numerous discussions with law enforcement, government partners, and community stakeholders, I proudly introduced legislation to reduce gun theft, reduce crime, and most importantly, reduce the senseless violence that has plagued our neighborhoods.

Did you know one in every six children face food insecurity? It’s a heartbreaking statistic that underscores why it’s so important to fight back against childhood hunger and ensure every family in our community has the opportunity to thrive. This week, I joined Feed the Children, PriceRite, Catholic Charities, and my many partners in government as we united to achieve that goal. Over 800 local families received food and essential household items during this event—further illustrating that by working together, we can make a change and make a difference in the lives of our neighbors.
