I’ll cut to the chase: Democrats face an uphill battle to defend the Senate this year.
I’ll explain why it’s so important that we act to defend our Senate majority this year in just a minute. But if this is all you need to hear, will you donate to support Sunrise using this link?
John, it’s no secret: we are in a climate emergency, and our window of opportunity to prevent global catastrophe is rapidly closing. All around us we see the impacts of a worsening climate crisis. Just in the past few weeks we have seen record heat waves across Europe1, a ‘monsoon on steroids’ in Pakistan2 , and “tsunami-like” waves hitting Hawaii3.
But here’s the thing: Our organizing is working — we just passed our starting point, the Inflation Reduction Act, and we can’t stop now. We have a plan to set us on the path to a livable future, and we must make it a reality.
The intersecting crises we face demand a Green New Deal to create jobs, deliver justice, and save our planet. The Senate is far from perfect and we need to be fighting to transform and strengthen our democracy, but remember: the Republican agenda is to simply block everything, ignore the climate crisis that is destroying homes and lives across the country, and deliver nothing for the American people.
The future of our planet cannot wait. I reject the Republican agenda and know that if we protect our Senate majority, we can usher in an age of climate action. We need to elect more bold progressive champions to begin the decade of the Green New Deal.
If we’re going to fight against climate catastrophe, our progressive movement must come together to defend and expand our Senate majority. That’s where your help comes in, John.
Between now and November, we have a great deal of work to do. Our corporate and Republican opponents have been executing a decades-long plan to erode reproductive justice, subject our communities to gun violence and destroy our planet. They have virtually limitless resources to put to work destroying our planet and they’re not afraid to use them.
The good news is that our movement is growing stronger by the day, and I’m confident that together we will make true climate justice.
Despite everything that has been thrown our way, we are on the verge of winning.
