| Dear Friend, Did you hear President Biden's speech last night? "Donald Trump and the MAGA Republicans represent an extremism that threatens the very foundations of our republic."(1) President Biden has finally called out what is happening to our democracy. This isn't about two political parties presenting different visions of what's best for the country. MAGA Republicans, led by Donald Trump, are working to undermine elections in every state in the union. Our president also issued a call to action for all of us who believe in our democracy: "Speak up. Speak out. Get engaged."
Across the nation -- from gubernatorial contender Doug Mastriano in Pennsylvania to House of Representatives contender Darrell Issa in California -- Trump-endorsed candidates are openly speaking about how they will overturn the will of the people if they are elected. And it's time to face a hard truth: These candidates wouldn't have anywhere close to the traction they do -- or the chance of winning -- if it weren't for political apathy on the left. Fundraising and engagement is at its lowest rate in years. And if we don't step up, right now, right this minute, we could see our government infiltrated by these MAGA Republicans at every level. As President Biden said, we can't afford for anyone to be on the sidelines. It's time to do the work of democracy. There is nothing more American.
