John,
In collaboration with the grassroots advocacy organization Mothering Justice, we recently launched the Mamas’ Caucus in Congress!
We’re centering mothers of color and advocating for affordable childcare, paid sick leave, and working to fix unjust health and economic disparities that mothers of color and their families face.
I’ve had the honor of working alongside Mothering Justice for years in Michigan and at the federal level.
Through fellowships and voter empowerment programs, Mothering Justice ensures that women of color have more of a voice in the legislative decisions that impact us and our loved ones. Mothering Justice also advocates for and implements policy solutions, such as programs in Michigan for childcare support and for low-wage women workers.
Will you donate today to Mothering Justice, a grassroots organization fighting for justice by advocating for and empowering mothers of color?
Mothering Justice is addressing racist inequities in our healthcare system, including high maternal mortality rates for women of color—particularly Black women—and their infant children.
Working in coalition with other trusted groups, Mothering Justice found that increased access to birth workers is key to improving Michigan's Black and indigenous pregnancy-related outcomes.
Mothering Justice is deeply rooted in our community, including starting a free diaper and formula drive for mamas in need.
Mothering Justice helps implement policy solutions for economic justice in Michigan, including:
-
Facilitating a new pilot program in Michigan where 1/3 of employees’ child care costs are covered by their employer and the State of Michigan.
-
Helping Michigan women workers who earn low wages understand and access their employment rights and benefits.
As part of its broader mission for mothers of color to have more of a voice in policy-making decisions, Mothering Justice runs fellowships to empower parents and caretakers with the tools needed to engage in the political process in their communities. The group also provides crucial voter information and fights back against voter suppression.
This includes helping to steer coalitions like Michigan’s Defend Black Voters Coalition, which has been holding corporations like DTE Energy accountable for funding anti-voting-rights politicians.
I’m deeply grateful for Mothering Justice’s leadership in my community, at the state level, and at the national level.
Please donate what you can today to Mothering Justice so the group can continue empowering and advocating for mothers of color to influence policy.
