President Joe Biden has introduced a plan that will make a historic $40 billion investment in education. And it comes at a critical time.

In 2020, school enrollment crashed to its lowest level since 1943.¹ This drop directly impacts funding for public schools, student performance, and the prospect that many children will be left behind. At the same time, schools are having difficulty hiring and retaining qualified teachers and support staff.

We’re rallying our national allies and our CHN community to demand Congress make the much needed investments in public education to stop the crisis in public schools.

We know from your past engagement with our programs that you care deeply about increasing equity, including in our education system, and providing a bright future for young people of all backgrounds. Can you please chip in $5 to power our advocacy efforts to fully fund public education across the country?

In addition to K-12, an effective education system includes high-quality early childhood programs, including quality child care, Head Start, and Early Head Start, which help children develop the skills they need to succeed in school and help parents get and keep jobs. It includes access to affordable higher education, including college or university or technical school.

Over the past several years, funding cuts to public education have resulted in programs receiving $7 billion less than they did a decade ago. We can’t let this continue. President Biden’s proposed education funding is a critical step in the right direction for our students and their futures.

At the Coalition on Human Needs, we are so grateful for all the wonderful teachers, support staff, counselors, and administrators who work hard every day to provide our children with a quality education. They deserve the material support and resources necessary to succeed.
