| Hi friend, We emailed you the day it happened, but it deserves another acknowledgement today and everyday: President Biden signed the biggest investment in climate action ever into law! The Inflation Reduction Act, which earmarks $369 billion to climate, is the kind of transformative commitment we need to completely change our economy and infrastructure the way that science tells us we have to in time to prevent the worst of the climate crisis. Because we cannot solve a big problem like climate change without this type of big action. Before I go into more detail of the many benefits and provisions of the climate package, I want to point out California’s role and leadership in getting to this point. It truly cannot be overstated. Simply put, we would not be celebrating this moment without the work of our California champions, including Senator Alex Padilla, Speaker Nancy Pelosi, and Representatives Katie Porter, Mike Levin, Jared Huffman, Alan Lowenthal, Nanette Barragán, Barbara Lee, and Ted Lieu. It’s important to make sure our representatives hear from us when we’re proud of the job they’re doing. Will you add your name to our thank you card to these California climate champions? |
| | From 10 years of tax incentives for clean energy to prioritizing sustainable agriculture, the Inflation Reduction Act is all about longevity. People are going to see their communities change for the better over the next several years, friend. Here are just a few of the many things that the IRA will do: - help reduce air pollution and help prevent wildfires
- clean up the air and water in underserved communities that have been burdened with pollution for generations
- spur investments in clean energy and energy efficiency projects, particularly in communities that have been hardest hit by the climate crisis
- encourage the purchase of domestically produced electric vehicles and batteries, helping to create jobs in the U.S.
- help address the restoration of California’s coastline
Our country has never done anything like this before, but we know it’s totally needed – and just in time. We have until 2030 to put these big things into implementation. This historic achievement proves that our federal government can still get past the political gridlock in a powerful way to make massive change happen. Now, we need California and other states to step up, match this investment, and go even further to help us reach our climate goals. Please, add your name to thank our California leaders for getting the Inflation Reduction Act passed >> We are changing the country with federal climate action — change that is led by California and driven by the work of this team of EnviroVoters! Thank you, friend, for your hard work, support, patience, and optimism. |
