Food prices are surging in grocery stores across our communities, and as a result, the budgets of families and hardworking taxpayers are being crushed. Did you know that in July of this year, food prices increased by 13.1%, and this jump is the highest since 1979? It’s no wonder that from the gas pump to the grocery store, everyone is shaking their heads in disbelief.
Just wait until you see the numbers. Take a moment and think about the commodities that both you and your families rely on, and what you regularly place in your shopping cart at the grocery store. Have you noticed that these items are more expensive now than last year? If so, you’re not alone. Here are just a few examples of how popular items have increased in price over the past year:
- Eggs are UP 38%
- Chicken is UP 16.6%
- Milk is UP 15.6%
- Potatoes are UP 13.3%
- Fresh fruits and vegetables are UP 8.2%
Of course, we cannot forget about how average American households will be forced to shell out an extra $6,000 this year because of this inflation catastrophe. What’s more the average American worker has seen $3,000 disappear from their annual income. This is the result you can expect when Washington throws caution to the wind and recklessly spends money that it does not have. Fiscal responsibility be damned.
On August 5th, I wrote to you about the so-called “Inflation Reduction Act”, the latest spending scheme that will do nothing to bring relief to the American people from the gas pump to the grocery store. I took a stand, as I always do, and voted against this sham legislation. Make no mistake, I will continue to oppose any attempts by Washington Democrats to add fuel to the already raging inferno that is the inflation catastrophe.
My Latest Op-Ed
President Biden finally announced his plans for federal student loan cancelation, and Americans could not be getting a worse deal. His plan does nothing to reform the federal student loan system nor address rising college costs; rather, this administration is forcing taxpayers who never went to college or who made fiscally responsible choices to fund his student loan scheme. It bears repeating that canceled federal student loans do not disappear. Biden chose to pluck more than $2,000 from the wallets of hardworking Americans to pay off student loan debt largely held by wealthy borrowers. The American people deserve better than this.

We Stand with Law Enforcement
Violent crime and lawlessness continue to plague our great country. So far in 2022, homicide rates across have increased roughly 50% compared to this time in 2019, according to the Major Cities Chiefs Association. More than 200 officers have been shot in the line of duty this year alone, and 39 were killed. Compared to 2021, robberies and property theft are up nearly 20%. What’s more, there have now been OVER 80 acts of violence and intimidation against pro-life pregnancy centers, churches, and organizations by Far-Left radicals, according to Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America.
Let me be very clear, stripping law-abiding Americans of their God-given Second Amendment rights, as well as defunding the police, will not end this scourge of crime. Funding law enforcement, protecting the Second Amendment, and upholding the rule of law will. House Republicans will continue to fight against the irresponsible policies that led to this disgraceful catastrophe in the first place. We won’t let this issue be swept under the rug and forgotten about.
