Dear Friend,

Rishi Sunak has said trust means “telling you the truth, and even when that’s not easy”. Liz Truss stressed that you “have to be honest with the public”.

But this has not been a contest that sought to rebuild trust in politics.

Both candidates to be our next Prime Minister have made recent claims that do not stack up. Televised debates and interviews—important for scrutiny in a contest that will decide our next leader—have been cancelled. And at a time when millions of people are worried about their finances, we know very little about how either candidate plans to respond to the economic challenges ahead.

I wrote to you in July about our concerns with the upcoming contest. With your support we went on to partner with national broadcasters to scrutinise candidates and hold them to their word.

Next week our new Prime Minister will enter No.10 without having made a clear break from the false and uncorrected claims of their predecessor. More than 30,000 people have already joined us to call on MPs to stand up for honesty in politics by fixing parliament's broken corrections system.

Together we will demand the honesty in politics both candidates have promised—and make sure there are consequences when they fall short.

Best wishes,

Will Moy—Chief executive
