That was illegal.
Imagine if the government could charge us attorney’s fees to access public records. Only the wealthy would be able to use the Sunshine Law. The public and the press would have few ways to hold our government accountable. We cannot let this happen.
Our Attorney General refused to do his job and enforce the Sunshine Law.
So I did.
I took the government to court. For the first time in our state’s history, a judge ruled that the government can charge attorney’s fees. We’re fighting back.
This isn’t a typical campaign for Attorney General. We can’t keep sitting back and doing typical things if we want to make Missouri work. The stakes are extremely high because our government is clearly not here for us. We need to fight for our democracy. We need to take back Missouri.
I’m proud to stand for our civil liberties and the freedom of our press, and to have these wonderful organizations in my corner.
I need you there with me too.
After December 31, I’m going to report the names of our donors, including the ones who give us $1. Because I want you to be proud of what we’re building here in Missouri, no matter how much you have in your bank account. I want you to be proud to stand with us.
I want you with me. Are you in?
