"The governments of our countries keep concessioning our territories without our consent to the extractive industries that are creating climate change. This should be criminal."
– Helena Gualinga
In a couple weeks, both this year and decade will come to a close. Looking back at the last ten years, we're proud to have been a part of many victories for the Amazon and indigenous rights. But if the past year showed us anything, it's that we cannot rest for one moment or the forces bent on destruction will wreak havoc once again.
2019 changed everything for the Amazon. But the news is not all bad. Amazon Watch and our indigenous allies have received global support like we have NEVER had before. Together our movement has reached a new level, and we are never going back.
Make no mistake, indigenous peoples are under attack across the Amazon, and as the climate crisis worsens we will see more efforts to destroy and plunder the rainforest. Our resolve is at its strongest, as is that of our indigenous allies.
Every dollar of every donation we receive through the end of the year will be spent on our programs – and MATCHED! Together we will expand and deepen our work to Stop Amazon Destruction, Advance Indigenous Solutions, and Support Climate Justice.
The next decade will probably be the most pivotal one humanity has ever faced. Let's enter it together from a place of strength. If you're able and haven't already done so, please consider becoming one of our core monthly sustainers.
Thank you for being on the right side of history!
