"It costs a lot of money to look this cheap." — Dolly Parton
Dear Reader,

Dolly probably wasn’t referring to independent, paywall-free local journalism with this quote, but the point stands: Many things are much more costly than they may appear at first glance. We’re proud to provide journalism of the highest quality for our region, and we never require readers to contribute financially to benefit from the information in the stories we publish.

However, our journalism is free to read and expensive to produce, and it’s been getting even more expensive lately. Here are a few examples:
5 recent cost increases. 1. Email service - our email provider (how we send out our newsletter) is $40 higher per month for the same level of service. 2. Content hosting: Our content management system (how we publish our stories) is now $200 more per month. 3. Legal compliance: The price of compliance services we're required to have as a nonprofit is up $1,500 this year. 4. Images & graphics: The service we use to help create story graphics is now $10 more per month. 5. Healthcare costs: PublicSource increased contributions to employee benefits by 3.5% to help defray rising costs of healthcare. Can you help support our nonrprofit newsroom & the paywall-free news we provide?
When costs go up, we don’t have subscription revenue or wealthy owners to help defray expenses; we rely on the support of readers like yourself to help keep us going. You’re not currently a PublicSource member, so we’re asking: If you value the service we provide for our region, can you take a moment to help us keep it available by making a gift of $25 or more today?

Become a member by making a gift of support.
With our thanks,

The PublicSource team
