Biden’s Primetime “Unity” Speech Alienates Half the Country

Daily Wire: Democrat President Joe Biden demonized millions of Americans during a primetime speech Thursday evening where he claimed that he wanted the country to unite. Biden repeatedly had to clear his throat and coughed throughout the speech as he claimed that people who challenged the results of the 2020 presidential election were “extremists.” “Too much of what’s happening in our country today is not normal,” Biden said. “Donald Trump and the MAGA Republicans represent an extremism that threatens the very foundations of our republic” (Daily Wire). Townhall: PRESIDENT BIDEN: “MAGA Republicans…embrace anger. They thrive on chaos. They live not in the light of truth but in the shadow of lies” (Twitter). Spencer Brown: Despite insistence from White House — including Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre and Chief of Staff Ron Klain — earlier on Thursday that Biden’s address would not be political and not about one political party or one political person, the president directly named “Donald Trump” and repeatedly invoked “MAGA Republicans” in his remarks (Townhall). David Harsanyi: Basically a smear of 70 million people— in front of the flag and military on primetime tv (Twitter).

Coming Clear: The True Price of the Pandemic on our Children

Wall Street Journal: The Education Department’s first look at test-score trends since the pandemic began reveals the worst drop in math and reading scores in decades for students in fourth grade, a crucial indicator for educational and economic trajectory. Scores released Thursday show unprecedented drops on the long-term trends tests that are part of the National Assessment of Educational Progress, known as the “Nation’s Report Card.” The tests are administered to U.S. students age 9. The test scores reflect more than a pandemic problem, with experts saying it could take a generation for some scores to rebound. Some say current achievement levels could weigh on economic output in years to come (Wall Street Journal). Daily Wire: The drop in scores also occurred despite record-level federal spending on education. A total of $122 billion was earmarked for K-12 schools as part of the American Rescue Plan alone (Daily Wire).

Bank of America Launches Controversial Program Exclusive to Minority Communities

Daily Wire: Bank of America is under fire for a new mortgage lending program geared specifically to black and Hispanic homebuyers. The loans, to be made in select minority communities throughout the country, require no down payments and no closing costs. Although white homebuyers in those neighborhoods who meet certain criteria are eligible for the program, the North Carolina-based lender said it is designed explicitly for blacks and Hispanics (Daily Wire). Post Millennial: Last year, Christopher Rufo leaked documents that revealed Bank of America’s executives were implementing racial equity programs and distributed materials to employees explaining its goals. The documents explained that “reverse racism and discrimination are not possible” and that people of color “could not be racist.” Bank of America promoted the definition of racism that states it can only exist to “uphold white supremacy” (Post Millennial).

Taliban Celebrates U.S. Withdrawal With Parade, Display of American Arms

Spencer Brown: It’s now been one year since President Biden pulled up stakes from Afghanistan in a sudden withdrawal that angered America’s longstanding allies, saw 13 U.S. service members killed in the chaos Biden’s lack of planning created, and left an unknown number of Americans behind in a Taliban hellhole. As a result, countless terrorist prisoners held across Afghanistan were set free to return to their violent brethren and some $7 billion worth of military equipment fell into the Taliban’s greedy hands. On the one-year anniversary marking the end of Biden’s disastrous withdrawal, the Taliban did what any terrorists trying to show strength and legitimacy would do with billions worth of fancy American war machines — they threw a despotic parade and party to show off their in-kind donations from Joe Biden (Townhall). AZ: The Taliban held a parade at the former main Afghan US airbase Bagram in honor of the anniversary of the Americans’ departure (Twitter).

Poland Seeks Reparations From Germany for Nazi Invasion

ABC: Poland’s top politician said Thursday that the government will seek equivalent of some $1.3 trillion in reparations from Germany for the Nazis’ World War II invasion and occupation of his country. Jaroslaw Kaczynski, leader of the Law and Justice party, announced the huge claim at the release of a long-awaited report on the cost to the country of years of Nazi German occupation as it marks 83 years since the start of World War II. “We will turn to Germany to open negotiations on the reparations,” Kaczynski said, adding it will be a “long and not an easy path” but “one day will bring success.” He insisted the move would serve “true Polish-German reconciliation” that would be based on “truth” (ABC). Reuters: Poland’s new estimate tops the $850 billion estimate by a ruling party lawmaker from 2019. The ruling Law and Justice (PiS) party has repeated calls for compensation several times since it took power in 2015, but Poland hasn’t officially demanded reparations (Reuters).

Ajit Pai: Utility customers “tried adjusting their thermostats Tuesday [and] learned they had no control over the temperatures in their own homes. … 22,000 customers who had signed up for the Colorado AC Rewards program were locked out of their smart thermostats” (Twitter). New Mexico Governor Signs Executive Order to Build New Abortion Facility Near Texas Border

Axios: New Mexico Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham (D) signed an executive order Wednesday setting aside $10 million to develop a new reproductive health care clinic near the state’s Texas border. The new clinic will expand access in the state to the “full spectrum of reproductive health care” and help it prepare for a potential increase in people seeking abortions from other states that have restricted or banned access to the procedure in the wake of the Supreme Court’s overturning of Roe v. Wade (Axios). Townhall: Texas, specifically, enacted a trigger law making abortion a felony in the state. It took effect last week. Last year, the state had enacted a law banning abortion after fetal heartbeat detection. In the wake of the Dobbs decision, abortion provider Whole Woman’s Health made the decision to close its Texas clinics and move to New Mexico. Whole Women’s Health had previously challenged the six-week ban at the Supreme Court (Townhall).

White House Claims Democrats Wanted to Reopen Schools While Republicans Wanted to Keep Them Closed

Daily Mail: White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said Thursday former President Trump shoulders the blame for learning loss during Covid-19 closures for ‘mismanaging the pandemic. ‘In less than six months, our schools went from 46 percent being open to almost all of them,’ she continued. ‘That was the work of Democrats, in spite of Republicans,’ she said, blaming the GOP for voting against the American Rescue Plan which offered $130 billion for schools (Daily Mail). RNC Research: Karine Jean-Pierre unbelievably claims it was “the work of Democrats” that re-opened schools. That is absurd. Democrats did everything they possibly could to keep schools shut down (Twitter)! Corey DeAngelis: how it started how it’s going (Twitter).

House Republicans Require Meta, FBI Disclose All Communications

Washington Examiner: House Republican investigators are demanding access to all communications between Facebook and the FBI following comments by Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg on the social media giant’s controversial decision to throttle Hunter Biden laptop stories in 2020. Facebook and Twitter both restricted access to the New York Post’s Hunter Biden laptop stories in the heat of the 2020 election after receiving Russia-related briefings from the bureau (Washington Examiner). Rep. Jim Jordan: Facebook is on notice (Twitter). Fox News: In their letter, the GOP lawmakers went on to allege that Facebook has attempted to avoid any “real accountability for its actions” and has dodged providing sufficient answers for their suppression of the New York Post’s story (Fox News).

This is the latest in a series of high-level Russian oil execs to die unexpectedly. Wall Street Journal: The chairman of Russia’s second-largest oil-and-gas giant, Lukoil PJSC, died Thursday after falling from a hospital window in Moscow, according to Russian state media agency TASS. He was hospitalized for a heart attack and was also taking antidepressants, the news agency said. Mr. Maganov is the second senior executive who worked at Lukoil to die in recent months.
