John,
It's been a true honor to
serve as your District 5 Supervisor at City Hall, and I will always
cherish this experience. Thank you.
Once again, I'd like to express my thanks to my wonderful team, my
Aides Juan Carlos, Derek, Shakirah and Caleb, our D5 interns, my City
colleagues, and all District 5 residents. Though my time as your
representative at City Hall ended yesterday, I will absolutely
continue to work alongside all of you to advocate for our entire
community and to ensure everyone has an opportunity to thrive in San
Francisco. This is my life's work.
For over a year, we've worked tirelessly together for our beloved
city and our neighborhoods. I'm incredibly proud of everything we've
accomplished. In my 16 months in office, we passed over 31 pieces of
legislation unanimously, tackling some of our toughest issues head-on.
We created the first navigation center and safe parking program for
people living out of their cars and RVs and legislated to build
hundreds of new apartments on Divisadero, increasing affordable
housing requirements to mandate that between 20% and 23% of all future
apartments be affordable. We started San Francisco's first Office of
Racial Equity, prohibited retail stores from not accepting cash, and
stood up for women's rights by putting an end to City business with
states that ban abortion. We passed legislation to streamline small
business permitting, and we moved San Francisco towards a clean power
future by mandating 100% renewable energy in our largest commercial
buildings by introducing groundbreaking legislation to end natural gas
use in all new municipal construction. And through it all, we always
did our utmost to make your calls and emails, your hopes and concerns,
our highest priority.
In
the same vein of working together on the issues that matter most, as I
depart, I'm sharing my District 5 Housing Opportunities
Report. This groundbreaking report will provide a common
framework and comprehensive look at housing development opportunities
throughout District 5. I have worked on this report since taking
office, and I am proud to finally be releasing it.
Look after one another, stay involved in your neighborhood, and
don't forget that even small acts like sweeping up on your block helps
build a stronger District 5.
I'll see you in the neighborhood!
Always,
Supervisor Vallie Brown
