With summer coming to a close, I wanted to take a moment to say thank you. August was a fantastic month for NY-14 and our movement across the country, and that’s in no small part thanks to dedicated volunteers and supporters like you.
🎒 We distributed 500+ backpacks to kids across The Bronx and Queens alongside our community partners to help families get ready for back-to-school.
✉️ Alexandria rallied at the American Postal Workers National Convention, celebrating all the successes we’ve had in Congress this year to make the USPS stronger and better funded — including a pilot program for postal banking!
👨👩👦 As Alexandria continues to fight in Congress for paid federal leave and better support for childcare, our team hosted a virtual workshop on organizing childcare collectives to help give parents solutions now.
💰 We finally saw progress with student loan debt relief, and continued to push for cancellations of higher debt amounts.
💸 Alexandria voted for the Inflation Reduction Act, which will reduce carbon emissions by 40 percent, allow Medicare to negotiate for lower drug prices, increase taxes on the wealthiest, and much more!
📓 Our team concluded our Homework Helpers summer program with Start Lighthouse, in which third graders completed a curriculum to build skills in reading and empathy.
🗳️ Kristen Gonzalez won her primary for the New York State Senate, despite being outraised hundreds of thousands of dollars!
🎉 The Squad all won their primaries, despite facing millions of spending from special interest groups.
🍎 Our allies on the local and federal level in New York — Senator Jabari Brisport, Senator Gustavo Rivera, Rep. Jamaal Bowman, and Rep. Nydia Velazquez — all won their primary elections.
