Health Equity Fellowship
It has been one year since Health Affairs launched the Health Equity
Fellowship for Trainees
(HEFT) with the intention of cultivating the next generation of health
equity research leaders. Now, we are accepting applications for the
Fellowship's second cohort.
"The purpose of HEFT is to increase the quality of manuscripts published
by researchers of color, and support future health equity research
leaders," says Patrick Odai-Afotey, Program Manager of Equity
Fellowships at Health Affairs.
Research shows that one of the barriers to success for many researchers
from underrepresented racial and ethnic groups lack of mentorship.
With this in mind, we pair each HEFT fellow with multiple mentors,
including experienced Health Affairs authors and editorial staff, for
one year as they prepare manuscripts to be published in Health Affairs
or another journal.
Some topics covered in the Fellowship include crafting equity research
methodologies, responding to reviewer feedback, tracking journal
citations, building resilience in the workplace, and navigating Health
Affairs' manuscript selection process.
Applications for the Fellowship are due by September 19, 2022.

Elsewhere At Health Affairs
Today in Health Affairs Forefront, Eric Coles and Heather Krasna write
that public health organizations spend pennies
on lobbying compared to other health-related professions and
associations, an imbalance that may perpetuate the system's problems.
If you like the work we publish on Forefront and our podcasts, you can
show your support by becoming a Health Affairs Insider
,
and as an added bonus, you'll get a free gift for joining.
