In 2022 state legislatures rejected 95% of the gun lobby's extreme agenda.

John–

Because of people like you, we're celebrating some massive wins for gun safety.

In states across the country, our call to action this year was clear: Do something to end gun violence.

And, once again, our state leaders answered.

Throughout the 2022 session, state lawmakers and governors enacted at least 45 gun safety laws. They also blocked 95% of the gun lobby's agenda, including hundreds of attempts by the gun lobby to weaken gun laws.

By demanding action, we got state policymakers to show what's possible when our leaders ignore gun lobby rhetoric and prioritize public safety.

Moms Demand Action and Students Demand Action volunteers helped make these victories possible. And I'm going to be honest, there are a lot of wins—too many to fit in a single email (seriously). We've made a difference this year in states across the country: Check it out.

So far this year, we've gotten state lawmakers to pass new gun safety laws that include measures to prohibit high-capacity magazines, strengthen background checks, regulate ghost guns, provide education on secure firearm storage, prohibit open carry, and more.

We hit a new record too: State legislatures allocated over $860 million to gun violence prevention programs.

We also made sure our lawmakers took action following the mass shootings in Buffalo and Uvalde, and again after the Supreme Court struck down part of New York's century-old gun.

But we didn't stop there. Because of our relentless efforts, statehouses rejected dozens of gun lobby-aligned bills that would have weakened gun laws. In states like Nebraska and Louisiana, we held off efforts to pass permitless carry. And in gun lobby strongholds like Missouri and Arizona, legislative sessions ended without lawmakers passing a single gun lobby priority.

That's a lot to celebrate—and I've only mentioned a fraction of what you helped accomplish. Read our blog to see all of our victories in states across the country so far this year.

As Everytown's Senior Director of State Government Affairs, I want to thank you for helping our movement achieve these incredible wins for gun safety.
