Last week, President Biden announced new actions to address student loan debt, which includes $10-20k of relief (dependent on Pell Grant eligibility) and interest rate changes. The announcement prompted a lot of calls and emails to our office, but I hope to hear from more of you. As I’ve shared before, surveys like the ones below remain the best tool I have to hear from as many members of our community as possible (we get roughly 2,000 messages a week, but our surveys often receive that many responses in a single day!). So, I hope you’ll take a few minutes to share your thoughts below and sign up for my periodic updates. 

Here’s what the President announced: 

• Up to $20k in debt cancellation to Pell Grant recipients; $10k to non-Pell Grant recipients for individuals who earn less than $125k/year or married couples who earn less than $250k/year 
• New income-driven repayment plans that cap monthly payments for undergraduate loans at 5% of a borrower’s discretionary income 
• Changes to the Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) program to give loan forgiveness credit to borrowers who have worked at a nonprofit, in the military, or in federal, state, tribal, or local government 
• More Pell Grant resources for students 

I know there’s a wide range of opinions about how we address both the root causes and the symptoms of rising costs in higher education, but what do you think?
