From choirs to Christmas carols and orchestras, music is one of my favorite parts of the holiday season, although I can live without “Grandma got run over by a reindeer.”

Music is hugely important in my household and should be part of every U.S. education. That’s why I’m excited to bring you Lillian Mongeau’s comprehensive look at music education, produced in partnership with Oregon Public Broadcasting. The story contains heartening news: Some low-income districts are finding creative ways to provide music classes and equalize a playing field that favors wealthier districts.
