John, last week, the Biden administration announced student debt forgiveness plans.

The administration is canceling student loan debt for borrowers who earn less than $125,000 a year — canceling $10,000 for most borrowers and $20,000 for Pell grant recipients — and extending the pause on repayments through the rest of 2022.

President Biden’s decision to reduce the burden of student debt will have a major impact on the lives of millions. This is an incredible victory for our progressive movement and wouldn’t have happened without the pressure of the leaders and activists who have been pushing the administration to deliver this much-needed relief.

But Barbara’s not done fighting for student debt cancellation.

No more temporary pauses on repayments. No more arbitrary litmus tests. No more half-measures.

It’s time to cancel student debt — all of it, permanently.

This is a racial justice and gender equity issue. And the time to deliver relief for student borrowers saddled with exorbitant student debt is now.
