John, we need to talk about what's happening in Jackson, Mississippi.
Our movement is not only about ending police violence against Black people. We're fighting to put an end to institutional violence against Black people, too.
What's happening in Jackson is a perfect example of this -- because for years, the city's water system has been on a downfall, only getting worse with temporary fixes. Now, the city – which is 80% Black – is facing the worst of it.
As a matter of fact, in March of last year, we emailed you fundraising for Jackson residents –
about this same issue – as the residents were out of water for over 3 weeks. Basic needs of survival have not been met for residents of a majority Black town.
What we are sure of is that right now, hundreds of thousands of people in Jackson have no running water, are barely able to flush their toilets, and have serious water access needs – whether it be for drinking, bathing, or something else.

This is just another example of how white supremacy has woven its way into our system – because if Jackson was a rich, predominately white town, it's fair to make the assumption that these water issues wouldn't be happening.
Blacker and poorer communities have long been blatantly neglected and aren't invested in. The water crisis in Jackson was bound to happen one way or another -- with a system and infrastructure that are decades old and have long been overlooked.
This is a part of the long-term fight for ensuring Black and poorer communities no longer remain the hardest hit by climate-related disasters and have the means to be free, safe, cared for, and well.
