Associate Minister for Education Hon Tracey Martin today announced the Learning Support Action Plan 2019-25 to help us give our young the best possible start in life.

Withone in five children needing support for their learning,theAction Plan will provide focus for the government’s funding commitments in Budgets 2018 and 2019 for those with learning needs. The plan has six strategic priorities that will guide the government to make the greatest difference over the next few years, and you can read more about the report here <[link removed]>

Minister Martin has always advocated for New Zealanders, and part of that is ensuring we have aneducation system that gets young people the right support at the right time so that they can be the best that they can be. This will help every young kiwi reach their full potential and engage constructively in society.

The Action Plan was informed by feedback through the Education Conversation, targeted consultation with the sector and stakeholders, and the 2015/16 Select Committee Inquiry into Dyslexia, Dyspraxia and the AutismSpectrum. The Education Conversation was delivered as part of the Labour & New Zealand First Coalition Agreement commitment to develop a 30 year strategic plan for New Zealand education.

New Zealand First was founded on the principle that money spent on education will be treated as an investment, not as expenditure. The Learning Support Action Plan’s goal is to change the way we deliver learning support; not just for those with high and complex needs but for those with mild to moderate needs or neurodiverse learning needs. The Learning Support Action Plan and the Learning Support Delivery Model being rolled out across the country aim to bring the support needed closer to the child or the young person and their family,achieving this investment.
