Senator Catherine Cortez Masto (D-NV) has a personal understanding of how skyrocketing drug prices are eating away at Social Security’s modest benefits. In an op-ed for the Reno Gazettte Journal¹, Cortez Masto wrote:

“I vividly remember how my grandmother struggled to afford her prescriptions. When I was in college, I’d sit with her at her kitchen table and help her with her bills. Too often, we’d worry that there wouldn’t be enough left for prescriptions after she paid for bills and groceries. She should never have had to choose between her medicine and putting food on the table. I’m working in the Senate so other Nevadans don’t have to make that same wrenching choice for themselves or their family.”

True to those words, Cortez Masto is a key Senate champion for lowering prescription drug prices and protecting Social Security and Medicare.

Her Republican opponent this November, Adam Laxalt, has a different view. Laxalt says “we need to look at” changes to Social Security and “find a way to drive down costs.” That’s code for cutting our hard-earned benefits.
