The Joys of Learning: Chickens as Someone, not Something

Tiny (above) and her flock are the first group of sanctuary residents to participate in our Joys of Learning study. Developed under strict ethical research guidelines, it’s a 100% voluntary project giving chickens the opportunity to learn — and have fun.

As there is more to living well than simply living free from harm, this study helps us better understand chickens’ social, emotional, and psychological needs. Our findings will help us further support their individualized care, recognize what brings them joy, and shift the public’s understanding.

Accepting Applications: Youth Leadership Council

There's still time to apply for the 2022-23 Youth Leadership Council! Our virtual advocacy program is for youth ages 13-18 who are interested in making a difference for farm animals and creating a more just, sustainable, and compassionate food system. An orientation meeting will be held on September 11, though we’ll continue to accept applications through October 2.
