John, She. Did. It. Mary Peltola BEAT Sarah Palin in an incredible upset in this week’s special election. We told you we believed this great candidate could become the first Alaska Native to win an election to Congress, and she did it!! Peltola's great campaign--including steadfast support for a women's right to choose, fighting to protect Alaska's natural resources and standing up for Alaskan workers--got it done by 3%, 51.5%-48.5%. The toxic, nasty, right wing zealotry of Palin was also helpful in sealing her fate. So we have good news and bad news. The bad news is that this was a special election for the seat left open when Rep. Don Young passed away, and there will be a repeat in November. The good news, we have an extra Democratic seat in Congress for those few months, Peltola will be an incumbent when she runs in November and she'll benefit from taking on the toxic Palin yet again. |
