I want you to hear this from me directly: I support both of the House’s articles of impeachment, and I want to tell you why.

As a congressman and former prosecutor, I take the law and my oath very seriously. I always promised to follow the facts, and this is where they led.

Several witnesses corroborated disturbing evidence that President Trump withheld duly appropriated federal aid for his own personal political gain. Scores of legal experts believe that’s an impeachable offense, and I agree.

I take no pleasure in this difficult decision, but President Trump’s actions left us with no other choice.

This isn’t personal. It’s about the Constitution.

We must do the right thing for our country and our democracy, and that’s what we’re doing now.
