WHAT: THE 2022 GLOBAL ENERGY AND FOOD CRISIS
WHEN: Thursday, September 1, 7:30-8:30 PM (EDT) RSVP Here for Zoom Link
DETAILS: Richard Heinberg is a Senior Fellow at Post Carbon Institute and the author of 14 books, including, POWER: LIMITS AND PROSPECTS FOR HUMAN SURVIVAL, along with hundreds of essays and articles, some of which have appeared in NATURE, WALL STREET JOURNAL and THE AMERICAN PROSPECT. He has lectured on 6 continents and has appeared in numerous environmental documentary films.
The world is currently in the early stages of a global energy and food crisis that's already as bad as any since World War II. It's likely to get worse. Heinberg will explore the causes of the crisis, its current scope, some possible near-future scenarios, and longer-term consequences for the economy and the renewable energy transition. He'll also discuss systemic strategies toward solution.
ACTION: Richard Heinberg will provide us with actions we can take at a systemic level. Here locally, we can take action to stop food waste, work on solutions for redistribution of food that would become waste.
RSVP Here. If you have not received a Zoom link by 6:30 PM tonight, please email me at [email protected]
ADDITONAL ACTION ITEM:
13 young people from across Virginia filed a constitutional climate lawsuit against the Commonwealth of Virginia. In Layla H. v. Commonwealth of Virginia, the youth plaintiffs assert that their state government is actively contributing to the climate crisis by permitting fossil fuel infrastructure including the production, transport, and burning of fossil fuels, thus violating the youths’ public trust and state constitutional rights.
The first hearing in this case is now scheduled for Friday, September 16 at the Richmond City Circuit Court .
They are asking that you support these youths by attending the hearing, and/or the rally nearby the courthouse after the hearing.
If you are interested in attending, please contact Helene Shore

Hope to see you on the 1st.
