Dearest Comrades,

As we end the month, Critical Resistance (CR) reflects on this year’s Black August, ([link removed]) a month-long recognition and recommitment to revolutionary discipline in the Black Radical tradition that was launched in California prisons in the 1970's, and has since grown to organizing communities both inside and outside of cages. It is a time to double down on the tenets of the Black Radical tradition – with a specific focus on radical prison organizing.

From CR Oakland and CR Los Angeles's joint fight to close 10 prisons across California by 2025 to CR New York's support in the Abolish ICE New York / New Jersey Coalition to pass the Dignity Not Detention Act, which would end New York's contract with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), CR has engaged in the month of Black August by strengthening our political study and by sharpening our abolitionist commitment and work to fighting imprisonment coast to coast.

We know that the fight to end imprisonment is a protracted struggle. And just as the advent of Black August intended to continue to fuel the spirits of those fighting against imprisonment, we recommit to PIC abolition at a time when it is important to fuel that fight once again. Join us in re-grounding in your commitment as well - this Black August and beyond.

Onward,
-Critical Resistance
