Dear friends,
YOU did it! Thanks to your calls, e-mails, and dedicated advocacy, five of California YIMBY's priority bills passed the legislature this session. It's a major victory for Californians, for housing, and for climate action.
But this is really a victory for the YIMBY movement – I'm talking about you – and our pro-housing allies. Without people like you who are willing to make those calls, send those e-mails, and talk to your neighbors about housing, I don't think we'd have succeeded in getting these bills passed.
Now, there's one more step: we need Governor Gavin Newsom to sign these bills into law.
So we're mobilizing grassroots activists like you to urge the Governor to sign AB 2097 – which ends costly and polluting parking mandates near transit. Will you send a message to Gov. Gavin Newsom in support of AB 2097 and help us make sure we prioritize homes for people over parking for cars?

AB 2097 gives Californians more choices about whether they want to pay for parking, or have lower-cost housing in walkable, transit-accessible neighborhoods. Studies show parking mandates can add $40,000 or more per parking spot to new projects, driving up rent.
This bill will also help us achieve California’s climate goals. By making it more affordable to live in walkable, transit-accessible neighborhoods, we can reduce car dependence and climate pollution – while also tackling our state's housing shortage and affordability crisis.
AB 2097 has broad support from across the state. The Los Angeles Times has come out in support of the bill, as has the mayor of San Diego.
Opponents mobilized their own networks to contact State Senators in a last-minute bid to stop AB 2097 from passing. It didn't work, and the YIMBY movement prevailed. Our bill passed the State Senate by a margin of 26-9.
Now these same opponents are focusing on the Governor's Office. They're already working to convince Newsom to veto this transformative bill. We can't let them succeed – not when we're this close to victory.
Let’s show the Governor that, with AB 2097, he has a great opportunity to lead on housing and climate policy, and keep California at the forefront of solutions to our pressing housing and climate crises.
So, if you're excited about ending California’s housing shortage and tackling the climate crisis, now is the time to raise your voice in support of AB 2097.

Thank you so much for your advocacy, energy, and passion.
Gratefully,
