Just over 2 months out and the race is starting to really heat up. And that means you’re going to start seeing prominent Republicans popping up to campaign for Elissa’s opponent and others in Michigan.

Today, Kevin McCarthy came to Michigan to hold a roundtable discussion with three GOP congressional candidates: John James, Paul Junge, and Tom Barrett, Elissa’s opponent.

They were at a trade school in Southeast Michigan, where a major theme was what the GOP has planned if they take back the House. Should that happen, Kevin McCarthy - the current minority leader - is looking to be the next Speaker of the House. And as you also may have heard, he’s likely to face a significant fight inside the GOP. As we’ve seen in Michigan and around the country, the GOP is far from united, with the Trump wing pushing against other factions vying for power. So McCarthy is here both to support the three competitive Republicans in the state, but also to help shore up votes for his campaign to become Speaker.

This is just another proof point that the road to keeping the House runs through Michigan – and right through Elissa’s district. You can bet that this is just the beginning of the major GOP figures on their way to Michigan. And not just visitors: the GOP Super PAC money has also shot up this week, with a cool million dollars now being spent on attack ads running against Elissa.
