Banned Books Week: Sept. 18-24

Banned Books Week (Sept. 18-24) is an annual event celebrating the freedom to read. Banned Books Week brings together the entire book community — librarians, booksellers, publishers, journalists, teachers, and readers of all types — in shared support of the freedom to seek and express ideas, even those some consider unorthodox or unpopular.

PFLAG National is a member of the Banned Books Week coalition as well as the Book Ban Busters coalition, to help ensure LGBTQ+ people and their families have the tools, resources, and support they need to fight censorship in their community.

Stay up to date on all things Banned Books Week as we continue to update our #ReadWithLove landing page on our website. You can also register for September's PFLAG Academy Online all about how to #ReadWithLove and fight book bans. Finally, be sure to share and reference our Fighting Censorship pages with resources to find out how you can help fight back.

We are also #PFLAGProud to have our #ReadWithLove program included in GLAAD's recent Guide to Battling Book and School Censorship.

More on what we're fighting for; where, when, and how we're fighting for it; and with whom we're partnering to achieve justice and equality for our LGBTQ+ loved ones

Tell your Senators TODAY to support the Respect for Marriage Act. (And set a reminder to keep telling them!) Folks who don't believe LGBTQ+ people should have rights are flooding Senate phone lines with their ugly rhetoric. In fact, they're doing that at every level of office.

PFLAGers, don't let their voices be the only ones lawmakers hear! No matter WHO your Senators are, tell them to support the Respect for Marriage Act to repeal DOMA and codify into law that couples of the same gender or of different races have the freedom to marry.

Tell your Senators TODAY to vote on the side of love and support the Respect for Marriage Act.

#ProtectTransHealth

The Biden administration has finally released a new proposed rule that takes major steps forward to protect trans people from health care discrimination! Trans people - and especially trans youth - have faced vicious recent attacks. Everyone should have access to safe and affirming medical care - and no one should have to face discrimination at the doctor’s office. During the days of public comment, you can make a difference.

Make your voice heard. Say NO to discrimination and YES to equal health care.
