SACRAMENTO—Rob Lapsley, president of the California Business Roundtable, issued the following response today to the state’s call to conserve electricity ahead of the upcoming heat wave:

“The governor is correct – the threat of rolling blackouts is real and must be taken seriously to keep our lights on, our electric vehicles charged and our air conditioning working for all Californians and businesses, especially those in the Central Valley and inland regions. Equally important today is that his actions are a clear warning sign that we have not solved the reliability and affordability issues stemming from our current climate change energy policies, much less the new energy policies that the governor and Legislature are rushing through on the last day of session. These new policies will increase our risk and costs in the future, which is why we need a diversified energy portfolio, including renewable natural gas for our peaker plants and why we support legislation to continue operating the Diablo Canyon power plant long into the future.”
