EJI Report: As Prison Spending Increases, so Does Violence and Misconduct
A new study by EJI finds that despite increased spending on prisons, violence and misconduct continue to increase in Alabama. There have been 13 homicides in the first 10 months of 2019 alone, making Alabama’s prisons the most violent in the nation. At the same time, spending on state prisons has increased 20% in the last 10 years and Alabama has budgeted an unprecedented $500 million for state prisons for 2020.

HBO's True Justice Documentary Will Be Available for Free on December 26
HBO’s True Justice: Bryan Stevenson’s Fight for Equality follows 30 years of EJI’s work on behalf of the poor, the incarcerated, and the condemned. The documentary will be available to watch for free starting on December 26. We encourage individuals, communities, and classrooms to view and share this important documentary. EJI's Legacy Pavilion to Open in January 2020
The Legacy Pavilion, a new site one block from the Legacy Museum, is set to open in January 2020. The pavilion will include new exhibition spaces that build on our racial justice work. The new site will also house a welcome center, a ticket office, a gift shop, a new restaurant from two award-winning chefs, and free parking for visitors. Stay tuned for more news about the opening in the coming weeks.
