Hi John,
I'm Megan Hunt. I’m a mom, business owner, and State Senator proudly representing Nebraska's eighth legislative district and the communities of Omaha, Dundee, Benson, and Keystone.
Nebraska is a special place: the open space, the kind people, and (fun fact!) the only state with a nonpartisan unicameral legislature.
But to be honest, it wasn't easy to be a young, openly bi, unabashedly progressive woman running for the first time in what's traditionally been an old, white man's club.
I received more than a few death threats for my reproductive justice work. I was told I was too young and inexperienced, and that I'd never win. But
I refused to let cowardly resistance to change deter me, and I won my race in a landslide.
Power cedes nothing without resistance, and having the support of my community and Run for Something helped me face that resistance head-on.
And I'm far from the only one. Progressive first-time candidates face all kinds of resistance when challenging the political status quo, and Run for Something is there to support them.

During my term in the Nebraska legislature, we blocked an abortion ban by
three votes. We also banned revenge porn, ended solitary confinement for people who are pregnant or have a developmental disability, updated the energy code to be the most sustainable in the country, and legalized industrial hemp farming.
And we did it in
Nebraska — not exactly the lefty haven you might expect.
We can't let those who've traditionally held power tell us what's possible. If I can run and win without ever holding office before, John, you can too.
Change has never come from the top down. Change comes when
the people have the courage and audacity to create it from the bottom up.
Run for Something is leading the way in this political paradigm shift. Join me in securing lasting progressive change in red and blue, rural and urban communities alike by chipping in

Thank you for your support,
Megan Hunt
