It’s practically a school-age parent’s right of passage: The annual freak out about your kid’s class for the school year – will they have friends, and more importantly, will their teacher do right by them. Luckily, Stephanie Malia Krauss has some reassurance today after some rocky starts of her own, with a list of eight things she’s learned to look for in a new teacher.
She writes: “My son blossomed under the care of his elementary school teachers, and I hope the same will be true in middle school. As a mom, and an educator and social worker I have watched these teacher-student interactions with curiosity and hope, asking myself how alchemy can happen with every teacher in every classroom.” Here’s what she found.
And in the meantime: This isn’t baseball, so it’s ok to cry a little. Batter up.
